The town of Surgoinsville was named in honor of its founder, Major James Surguine. Surgoinsville, located in central Hawkins County was chartered in 1815. Almost 200 years later this small community on the bank of the Holston River offers residents the charm of a close, friendly place to call home. East of Surgoinsville on State Route 346, the Phipps Bend Industrial Park hosts a range of manufacturers who employ more than 2,000 workers. Hawkins County airport is also located west of Surgoinsville and provides access to amateur as well as professional pilots in the area. Surgoinsville also has Riverfront Park on the Holston where the town’s Riverfront Festival is held annually. Each September, this event brings a weekend of music, entertainment, food, and rides to downtown Surgoinsville.
